Paul Carnicella started training in May of 2000 with Sensei Edson Carvalho. Paul was the first American student under Sensei Carvalho to be promoted in Brazil (purple belt). He competed in the Masters Division at the Mundials (World Championship) in Brazil. At this tournament he won his weight division and placed third in the absolute division (open weight). Paul has continued to stay active in competitions with the Arnold Classics and in 2007 entered the Black Belt division at the Battle at the Beach in which he received 2nd place.
Black Belt Paul Carnicella is the lead Defense Tactics Instructor for the Newark Police Academy where he also serves on the Defense Tactics Standards Committee. Currently, Paul teaches Defense Tactics for numerous SWAT teams throughout the nation as well as internationally.
Since obtaining his Black Belt from Sensei Edson Carvalho, Paul has maintained an affiliate academy in Belleville, NJ which is helping grow the team in the New Jersey area.
