Mark Ramos started training with Sensei Edson Carvalho in May of 2006 starting with 3 sessions per week. Upon entering his first competition, Grapplers Quest in October 2006, Mark left the two-day tournament 9-0 with three gold medals at Novice NoGi, White Belt at weight and White Belt Absolute. In December of 2006, he was awarded his Blue Belt from Sensei Carvalho.
In 2007, Mark began to aid Sensei Carvalho as an assistant instructor with the kids program 3 times per week while increasing his own training to 5 days per week. The year was spent in 11 competitions resulting in 10 gold medals at the blue belt division and miscellaneous no-gi divisions. He also won his first judo tournament at the rank of Green Belt. The last tournament of the year was the No-Gi World Championships which he received 2nd place in the Blue Belt Division. The year culminated with his first trip to Brazil to enhance his training and he was awarded his purple belt in December of 2007.
In 2008, Mark has continued to play a helpful role in assisting Sensei Carvalho with evolving the kids program. The year also started with a 2nd place finish at the Pan-American Championship as his first tournament at Purple Belt. In the Purple Belt division, he has won the Grapplers Quest tournament at his weight and placed 4th in the Absolute division (open weight) as well as winning the Diamond State Games as a purple belt and in the Advanced Division for No-Gi. 2008 winded down with another second place finish in the No-Gi World Championships at the purple belt division and a second trip to Brazil.
While continually fighting in BJJ, Mark has won 5 tournaments at the rank of Green Belt in judo and has followed the teachings of his instructor to balance his training. Mark continues to show enthusiasm towards helping Sensei Carvalho with the kids program while advancing his own talent.
